tar road options

There is a well-suited parking area five minutes drive from Riverlea at the bridge over the UMzimkhulu River at the start of the Drakensberg Gardens road. From this point cyclists and runners have a choice of four different directions in which to head:

  • The Drak’ Gardens road is just under 30km in distance and provides spectacular rides into the Berg of up to 58km.
  • The Swartberg/Kokstad road travels in a SW direction for 110km allowing athletes to determine the length of their session.
  • The road back toward the village of Underberg splits after 4km and gives the cyclist/runner a choice of heading straight out towards Bulwer or left up to the base of Sani Pass.

Triathletes looking to do Brick sessions can use a combination of these routes to keep their training fresh and interesting. The profiles of all these roads have been mapped and guests can access graphs with information such as ‘total climbing’ and ‘gradients’ on the website or on charts provided in the Riverlea cottages.
